Humor in "Much Ado About Nothing"

Humor is vital in any comedy. Though Dogberry and his constables play a minor role in “Much Ado About Nothing” their presents is vital. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

This essay will seek to explain the extent to which the statement above is agreed. Before stating my position, it is important that the definition for humor be defined.  According to Encarta dictionaries, humor is the quality or content of something such as a story, performance, or joke that elicits amusement and laughter. I must say that I do agree that Dogberry and his constable’s presence are vital.
In the book, “Much Ado About Nothing”, by William Shakespeare humor plays a part which makes the book enjoyable to read and also interesting. Humor is also brought about by the cases or case that Dogberry tries to solve, the case where he proves Hero’s innocence. In act three, scene three and act three scene five, humor is involved. It is said that their presence is vital (important) because without them where would the humor in the text come from. Their presence alone brings humor to the setting.
In the movie it is shown and brought across how funny and jokey Dogberry and his constables are. Usually when humor is not involved in a story, play or movie, it’s described by the viewer as plain and boring and the viewer did not enjoy watching it. Even the way that Dogberry and constable spoke, act and dress in the play brings humor to the ‘plate ‘. Imagine the text without/movie them, where would the humor be, surely not in the other characters and even if the part was played by other characters it wouldn’t be as good as how Dogberry and constable act it.
In concluding, humor is said to be a very important part of a play. Humor makes something interesting and daring to watch. I must strongly agree that Dogberry and his constable do play a vital part in the novel “Much Ado About Nothing”; it is because of their presence why humor was a part of the text. Humor is the success to a good story.
